Tommy Robinson to stand as MEP
FAR-right activist Tommy Robinson has announced he plans to stand in the European elections.
The former leader of the English Defence League, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, will stand in the North West region.
He claimed yesterday that he would represent ‘the working class of England’ if elected.
Robinson will stand as an independent, rather than for Ukip, despite being a political adviser to them. The news triggered an immediate backlash. Local Labour MP Mike Kane said: ‘This individual is not welcome to spread his xenophobic, Islamophobic, homophobic, racist vitriol. We do things differently in Manchester, we stand together against hate.’
In a statement, Robinson said: ‘Put me right inside the EU and they won’t know what hit them.’
And he described the Brexit Party’s Nigel Farage as ‘just another millionaire stockbroker who looks down on the working classes.’
