...and here’s ‘unpaid £2,180 bill he left behind’
ETHIOPIAN runner Haile Gebrselassie last night said he hoped Sir Mo Farah wins the London Marathon tomorrow so he can pay his outstanding hotel bill.
As the two long-distance athletes continued their war of words, Mr Gebrselassie said he and Sir Mo were ‘enemies’.
He said: ‘We were very good friends. I had a wonderful relationship with him but then everything changed. It was unexpected.
‘Until Wednesday we were friends, if you ask me today, we’re enemies.’
The Ethiopian two-time Olympic gold medallist said: ‘We need him to win [the marathon] because he has to pay his bill. Good luck to him.’
He was referring jokingly to Sir Mo’s alleged unpaid 81,345.05 birr (£2,180) bill at the hotel he owns in the capital Addis Ababa.
The winner of the elite men’s race at the London Marathon will receive £39,000.
Mr Gebrselassie said he will be spending time with his family tomorrow and will most likely miss the race.
When asked if he could beat Sir Mo in a race, he replied: ‘Yes, why not?’
