Is Banksy backing the eco-warriors?
ONE of his most recent stunts involved feeding a £1million artwork through a shredder.
But it appears Banksy has now turned his hand to a more sustainable enterprise.
Speculation was mounting yesterday that the elusive street artist had joined forces with climate change protesters in London after a mural appeared near their Marble Arch base.
The artwork was discovered overnight on Thursday, around the time Extinction Rebellion eco-warriors were gathering nearby to celebrate the end of their ten-day protests which saw some 1,130 arrested.
And if the timing is not enough of a clue – the child, depicted in the work next to a seedling shooting up through the earth, is clutching an Extinction Rebellion placard.
Yesterday Banksy collector John Brandler said he was ‘convinced’ the mural is an authentic piece by the Bristolian street artist – who has not yet claimed it as his own.
Mr Brandler, who owns a dozen Banksy pieces, said he was certain because it is ‘a topic [the artist] would support’, adding: ‘The name in the corner is not important, the signature is the work. And this is a Banksy.’
Westminster council confirmed the work is being investigated.
Banksy’s team did not respond to a request for comment.
