Far-Right surges in Spain election
SPAIN will have a far-Right party in its parliament for the first time since General Franco’s rule in the Seventies, polls suggested last night.
The Vox movement, which opposes multiculturalism and self-rule for regions such as Catalonia, was expected to win 12.1 per cent of the vote, or 12 seats, in the country’s general election.
The governing Socialist Party won 2 per cent of the vote, but will struggle to form a government. The conservative Popular Party is heading for its worst result in history, with 17. per cent.
Spain’s two main parties have been hit by anger over budget cuts and the rise of the far-Right.
