Singer acted as human shield to save a whale
BRYAN Adams has spent decades selling out stadiums, but he has also been trying to save the planet.
And now the 59-year-old Canadian rock star has even used his body as a human shield to prevent a whale being killed off the island of Mustique.
Adams intervened last week when he saw local hunters going after the creature, which was swimming within a 1,000-metre sea conservation zone around the private Caribbean island.
‘I was witness to a whale boat and speed boats corralling a whale; several boats going around and hurting it,’ he told local newspaper Searchlight.
‘I saw it... and I got out on my paddle board, and I was in between the whale and the whaler. I was there on a peaceful mission, it was big sea, the moment may have been lost. But the whale was beside me for a moment and it was gone.’
The singer has a home on Mustique, as do other celebrities such as Sir Mick Jagger and Tommy Hilfiger. It was a favourite of Princess Margaret.
Adams has got involved in the area’s conservation work, becoming chairman of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Environment Fund.
