Wolves find their bite in second half to topple Giants

-

WARRINGTON coach Steve Price was delighted how his team responded in the second half to run out 50-19 winners over Huddersfied Giants at the Halliwell Jones Stadium and maintain their Super League challenge. They remain four points behind leaders St Helens, who also racked up a half-century of points in their 50-14 emphatic win over Catalans. Wolves trailed 19-12 at half-time but turned on the style after the break as they ran in 38 unanswered points, finishing the game having scored eight tries, Bryson Goodwin (below) and Blake Austin getting a brace apiece. Price said: ‘It’s a credit to the players and showed the belief we have in each other.’ Giants coach Simon Woolford was less pleased, calling his side’s performance ‘not acceptable’. He said: ‘There are no excuses for getting 50 put on us. At the moment we’re not good enough to go with the top teams, it’s as simple as that.’ Hull’s 30-14 win over Wakefield saw them move up to third in the table. Joe Westerman touched down twice in the second half and there were also tries before the break by Albert Kelly and Connor Wynne. With Marc Sneyd converting all four tries and also kicking three penalties, Hull had more than enough for their opponents. ‘I think everyone’s looking at the top two teams who are playing really well. We’re happy with third,’ said Westerman. Leeds coach David Furner is hoping injuries sustained by Jack Walker, Kallum Watkins and Brad Dwyer are not too serious, after the Rhinos hung on for a 28-24 win over Hull KR. It was only Leeds’ fourth win of the 2019 season. ‘We’re moving in the right direction, I think,’ Furner said.
