CHAMPIONSHIP

-

NORWICH clinched promotion to the Premier League with a 2-1 win at home to Blackburn on Saturday. They will be crowned champions if they avoid defeat at Aston Villa on the final day. SHEFFIELD UNITED will join them after Leeds could only draw with Aston Villa. The Blades’ superior goal difference meant they were all but assured of promotion after beating Ipswich 2-0 on Saturday. Chris Wilder’s side — who return to the top flight for the first time since 2007 — can still clinch the title if they win at Stoke and Norwich lose.

RACE FOR THE PLAY-OFFS

DERBY’S 2-0 victory at BRISTOL CITY boosted their hopes of clinching the final play-off spot — while denting City’s own aspirations. With two matches left, Derby remain sixth, above

MIDDLESBROUGH on goal difference and four points ahead of the Robins, who are eighth. Leeds, Villa and West Brom are already in the play-offs.

ROTHERHAM were relegated after defeat at West Brom but manager Paul Warne deserves a ‘pat on the back’ according to former boss Ronnie Moore. ‘I don’t see any reason why he can’t take the team on to promotion,’ said Moore. BOLTON and IPSWICH are also down.
