Brexit Party snubs Bill Cash’s Tory It girl daughter

-

Much to their brothers’ dismay, Annunziata Rees-Mogg and Rachel Johnson have been unveiled as star candidates for next month’s Euro- elections – not for the Tories but for the Brexit Party and change uK respectively.

But I can disclose that a bid by a member of a third political dynasty to emulate them has ended in disappointment.

Laetitia cash, glamorous daughter of veteran Brexiteer Sir Bill cash, hoped to stand for Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party but has not been selected. ‘ She’s absolutely gutted,’ a friend tells me. ‘She was told she would be unveiled as one of the top candidates but they pulled the plug on her.’

Laetitia, who once appeared on a magazine as the future face of the Tory Party, puts it differently.

‘Far from being upset about not being selected, in all honesty I was relieved,’ she tells me.

‘The Brexit Party did reach out to me to stand in the Euro Elections. While I filled out the application as asked, I also told them I was reticent as I’d prefer to support from behind the scenes.

‘I also have a career focused on progressing clean-tech, decarbonisation and climate mitigation which, sadly, is seen by many as incompatible with being proBrexit.’ Laetitia, 45, has a daughter by lawyer Alex Goulandris, a member of the billionaire Greek shipping family, and another girl by her short-lived marriage to financier Johnny Gunn.

A friend senses that her interest in green issues is what doomed Laetitia’s candidacy. ‘She’s very passionate about the environment,’ he tells me.

Oddly, this did not deter the Brexit Party from selecting James Glancy as a candidate.

Besides hosting the Discovery channel’s Shark Week, the former Special Boat Service officer is a director of Veterans 4 Wildlife.

And Laetitia’s brother, William, was also selected to stand for ukip in North Warwickshire in 2014 when Farage was party leader.
