Is it unfair to the younger
LORD True, chairman of the Lords Select Committee on Intergenerational Fairness and Provision, has called for free TV licences for the over75s and bus passes for the over-65s to be ended (Mail). A TV licence costs £309 for two years. If Lord True attends the House of Lords for one day, he can claim £305. Stopping or reducing allowances for the Lords would be more sensible.
P. I. WRATTEN, Wokingham, Berks. I started work at 15, spent 40 years as a miner and then had part-time jobs until I was 80. I paid into my pension, am still paying taxes and hoped that when I did retire I would be comfortable. the illustrious Lords have no idea how life is for ordinary working people. Until they walk in our shoes, they should stay quiet and carry on enjoying a nice sleep in the Lords while they are supposed to be working. H. DOBSON, Rotherham, S. Yorks.
