TalkTalk worst for handling broadband complaints

- By Sean Poulter Consumer Affairs Editor

TALKTALK has been named and shamed as the worst company for dealing with broadband customer complaints for the third year in a row.

An annual survey by telecoms watchdog Ofcom found that levels of customer service among broadband, telephone and pay TV suppliers leave many angry and frustrated.

TalkTalk customers are less likely than average to be satisfied with their broadband service, have more reason to complain and are unlikely to have issues resolved on first contact.

The survey found the company received 96 complaints per 100,000 customers. The industry average was 58 and the figure for Sky was just 20.

Overall, 83 per cent of broadband customers were satisfied with their service, but 13 per cent had reason to complain.

BT replaced Virgin Media as the most complained-about pay TV provider, while both companies drew the highest complaints figures for mobile, along with Vodafone.

Lindsey Fussell of Ofcom said: ‘Shabby service can be more than just frustrating. Quality can be just as important as price.’
