IT’S great news ministers have abandoned plans to ditch our much-loved copper coins. I was shocked when a friend told me he throws away his 1ps and 2ps. But he’s not alone. As many as one in 12 coins are chucked in the bin, says a Treasury consultation. Stop, I beg you! Yes, they can be a pain to carry around, but you are literally throwing money away. Use them at selfservice supermarkets or wait until you have enough to visit Metro Bank’s money counter — and get cash in return. At the very least, donate them to charity — it all adds up.
