Careful on cancer

-

it’s a worry that GPs are missing lung cancer symptoms (Mail). After many visits to my doctor over several

years complaining of a persistent cough and spitting blood, he finally decided to send me for an X-ray.

When I called to find out my results, he told me that I had a shadow on my left lung, but because I’d never smoked he was putting that down to ageing.

Three months later, after I coughed up a lot of blood, I took myself off to A&E. I underwent a series of tests before being diagnosed with lung cancer. Half of my left lung was removed.

The good news is that 30 years later, I am a patient advocate helping others. TERRY KAVANAGH,

Liverpool.
