BRIDGE MASTERCLASS

- PETER DONOVAN

What would you bid next in the above sequence?

This is the next stage of yesterday’s bidding sequence. Do not make the mistake of thinking that south is showing a diamond suit by his last bid.

it is possible that he has four cards in the suit, because of the previous auction.

however, his bid is showing a control, i.e. an ace or void, and you can safely assume that it is the ♦ A.

it is a useful point to remember that, once a trump suit has been agreed, the bid of a new suit is showing controls, not distribution.

You should now bid 4 ♥ , a fairly simple selection in the control-showing process.
