THE chalky escarpments of the Sussex Weald once rang to the sound of an international arms industry. This week’s OPEN COUNTRY (RADIO 4, 3PM) follows Ian Marchant as he takes a walk through this lovely part of the world, looking for traces of furnace ponds and forges that date back to the 16th century.
THE Swedish mezzosoprano Anne Sofie von Otter (pictured) will be live in the studio for this afternoon’s IN TUNE (RADIO 3, 5PM). Anne Sofie sings a wide variety of material, and her career includes a very successful collaboration with Elvis Costello. Today, she will perform alongside pianists Bengt Forsberg and Leif Kaner-Lidstrom. There’ll also be music from the folk singersongwriter Katie Doherty,
who is soon to set off on a nationwide tour.

As ever, he has his theatre audience in the palm of his hand and helpless with laughter. Funny and very naughty.
