Selfridges’ Alannah keeps it in the family
ALANNAH Weston is taking over from her father as chairman of luxury store Selfridges.
The 47-year-old, heiress to her billionaire father’s retail empire, has been deputy chairman since 2014 after being made creative director when her family bought it in 2004 for a reported £598m.
Her father, Galen Weston, 78, has been made chairman emeritus. The family owns some of the UK’s biggest retailers , with a majority stake in Primark owner Associated British Foods and full ownership of Fortnum & Mason and upmarket furniture store Heal’s. The family is worth £10.1bn, according to the Sunday Times Rich List.
Weston lives with her two daughters and husband Alexander Cochrane, an architect, in South Kensington. ÷ BRITISH designer Anya Hindmarch, 51, has returned to the handbag and accessories business she founded in 1987, aged 18, and which is named after her, as managing director after stepping down as chief executive eight years ago.
