KNACKERED MOTHERS’ WINE CLUB

- BY HELEN McGINN

BARGAIN OF THE WEEK

Forte Alto Pinot Grigio, £6.49 (normally £9.79), Waitrose MADE from grapes grown in relatively cool vineyards in the foothills of the Dolomites in northern Italy, there’s more to it compared with your average PG. Think peach, apricot and a whiff of honeysuckle.

ROSé WINE

Terres de Brumes Cap d’Agde Rosé 2018, £4.99, Aldi A PRETTY PALE, crisp fresh rosé for under a fiver, tastes far more expensive than it is. From the Languedoc region in the South of France, it tastes of redcurrants with a squeeze of lemon. A perfect rosé for a crowd.

FOOD PAIRING: Salmon steaks

RED WINE

Tesco Finest Hawkes Bay Syrah, £8.50 (normally £10), Tesco SYRAH, the grape behind some great wines from Rhone Valley, is on storming form here. Grown in Hawkes Bay in New Zealand, good soils and a sunny climate are behind this red with bramble fruit flavours and a lick of spice.

FOOD PAIRING: Spaghetti bolognese

SPARKLING WINE

Vintage Cava 2015, £12, M&S CAVA might not be as cool as Crémant but a good vintage can be great value for money. This one’s rich and toasty with gorgeous citrus fruit flavours.

FOOD PAIRING: Asparagus quiche
