SO WHO’S IN THE FRAME?
IF TED isn’t H, who is? MARY O’CONNOR lays out the charge sheets for the possible suspects . . .
DCS PATRICIA CARMICHAEL
HASTINGS’S calculating nemesis vowed she would do whatever it takes to prove he was the villainous H — making her a target of suspicion. We already know that the AC-3 boss has climbed the ranks extremely swiftly, with Ted suggesting she may not have earned her position fairly.
Could Carmichael (Anna Maxwell Martin) be the ultimate corrupt cop?
GILL BIGGELOE
THE legal counsel’s relentless pursuit of Hastings may be motivated by more than just her attraction to him. Biggeloe (Polly Walker) has consistently tried to manipulate him, first in urging him to retire, then pressuring him to drop prosecutions against bent coppers.
She was exposed for giving Hastings crucial evidence from which key information has been removed by DI Dot Cottan. She claimed not to have known it had been tampered with, but is she telling the truth?
DET SUPT ALISON POWELL
THE shifty head of Operation Pear Tree did not report that John Corbett had gone AWOL while undercover in the organised crime group, and has repeatedly blocked AC-12’s efforts to investigate.
Former covert operations manager Inspector Denise Cameron accused Powell (Susan Vidler) of mismanaging the operation and pushing Corbett to focus on low-level targets — and away from unmasking H.
DI KATE FLEMING
SHE’S an experienced undercover officer, so could Kate ( Vicky McClure) be a double agent? Like Hastings, she had a troubled personal life with an estranged husband and a son she barely saw. Thanks to her promotion, she seems to have got her life back in order. Kate has been all too happy to report Hastings for some questionable decisions in this series.
Also, DI Dot Cottan knew about her previous undercover role as a corrupt officer and saved her life by jumping in front of bullets meant for her in series four. Could this connection come back to haunt her?
DI MATTHEW ‘DOT’ COTTAN
DS STEVE Arnott last week posted a photo to Instagram teasing the return of DI Dot Cottan (Craig Parkinson), exposed in series three as The Caddy — a key member of a crime group. He died in series four after being shot by a gang member, and with his dying breath told Kate the top man had the initial ‘H’. Was his death a cover-up and is he about to make a surprise reappearance?
