MasterChef diet has left me in agony, says Gregg
HE has spent 15 years shovelling down all manner of culinary delights and disasters on MasterChef.
These days, however, Gregg Wallace has to give spicy dishes a miss – as they trigger a stomach condition that leaves him in agony.
The presenter, who refers to himself as the ‘fat, bald bloke who likes pudding’, was diagnosed with diverticulitis last year. It causes painful swellings and infections in the intestine.
Wallace, 54, revealed he now has to avoid spicy food and alcohol. But sometimes he ‘forgets’ and flare-ups leave him doubled over in agony. ‘When they’re irritated, you’ve got to watch alcohol and spicy food,’ he told the Daily Mirror.
‘We were eating chillies yesterday. Before that I had a massive skinful of beer in Dublin – and it was already playing up. I forgot, because I’d been so well. But yesterday I was ill. I’m turning into one of those people who has things wrong with them.’
Speaking during filming of MasterChef: The Professionals, the father of two, whose fourth wife Anne-Marie, 33, is expecting their first child later this month, revealed he has been overhauling his diet and hitting the gym.
It came after he was told that his cholesterol levels were dangerously high.
