Lineker chased over TV licence

-

HE MAY be the BBC’s highest paid employee.

But that hasn’t stopped Gary Lineker from being accused by the TV licence man of not paying the fee. The former England footballer, pictured, who has presented Match of the Day since 1999, said enforcers have turned up at his house in south London four times over the £15 .50 payment.

He said: ‘This is ridiculous. I work for the BBC a lot. I moved to this house a few years ago and it was originally four apartments. I turned it into a house and I get – every month – a letter from the licence fee saying, “You’ve not paid”.

‘At least four times I’ve had them knocking on the front door and each time I say, “It’s a house, it’s one place... here’s my licence”. So every time I ring up they say, “Yeah, we’ve sorted it” – it’s been four years now.’

The 58-year-old earns £1.75 million a year at the BBC. He was speaking on his podcast with comedian Danny Baker.
