Hate preacher Choudary back home amid new fears for national security

- By Eleanor Sharples

ANJEM Choudary has returned to his family home amid fears he will once again pose a threat to national security.

The hate preacher is understood to have returned to his home in east London under licence in the past fortnight.

Security services believe Choudary’s extremist activities have decreased, but it is understood they have noticed increased activity among his followers, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Before being released on licence, he spent six months in a bail hostel under close supervision following his release from prison.

The 52-year- old was seen out shopping to buy sweets and top up an electricity pre-payment card. he told journalists, ‘It’s a lovely day’, but declined to answer any questions.

he must submit all his spending receipts to the authorities after his assets were frozen under UN sanctions. The father of five spent three years of a five-and-a-halfyear sentence in prison after he was detained in 2016 under terror laws for encouraging Muslims to join Islamic State.

Choudary led extremist group al-Muhajiroun, which was outlawed by the Government following the 7/7 attacks on London.

The release of Choudary and other offenders poses a renewed threat to national security.

A source told the Telegraph: ‘The group remains a threat to national security but the disruptions have been very effective. Choudary is now back at home. he is somebody who preferred to stay in the comfort of his home in London and encourage others to go and fight. he is a coward, his are not the actions of a warrior.’

A Ministry of Justice spokesman declined to comment on his move back to the family home.

But he added: ‘Public protection is our overriding priority when deciding whether an offender should be allowed to relocate from an approved premises.’
