Alexander the great tip ...or could it be Spencer?

- By Inderdeep Bains

Alexander is the bookmakers’ favourite name for the royal baby – followed by Arthur, Albert and James.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have followed tradition in not announcing their new baby’s name and are likely to wait until they have informed the Queen and the rest of their family.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge publicly announced the names of their first two children, George and Charlotte, within two days of birth while Louis took two days longer.

Arthur was the bookies’ favourite for Harry and Meghan’s baby all weekend but yesterday saw a surge for Alexander. Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: ‘Punters have been going crazy for Alexander and a flurry of bets have forced us to slash THe odds.’

Alexander would represent a break from the past, with the only current Windsor so named being Alexander, earl of Ulster – who is the Queen’s first cousin, once removed.

Arthur would maintain a family tradition as Charles and William both have it as one of their middle names. It also harks back to Arthur, Britain’s legendary king.

Another possibility is Spencer, to honour the family name of Princess Diana, or Henry, which is Prince Harry’s full name.

However, the couple might choose a more modern option. Meghan has said one of her favourite baby names is Grey.
