MAKE YOUR OWN SOFT DRINK

- MAKES SIX GLASSES TO PREPARE

NutritioNi­st Angela Dowden offers a gently sparkling ginger and lemon drink with no preservati­ves, sweeteners or additives. Per glass: 31 calories

150g peeled ginger 5 tbsp fresh lemon juice 425ml water Sparkling water to top up 6 tsp sugar (add to taste — you can also make it sugar free)

Mint leaves, added to taste Chop the ginger finely Put the ginger and lemon juice in a screw top plastic bottle along with 425ml water and shake thoroughly

Pop in the fridge, preferably overnight (this is your ‘cordial’)

When ready to serve, split between six glasses (or strain if you prefer)

Top each glass up to 250ml with sparkling water

Add sugar to taste (max 1 tsp per glass)
