IN 1940, the BBC aired an appeal asking for anyone who owned a ‘pleasure craft between 30 and 100 feet’. From this, a fleet of more than 700 vessels was assembled to help with the Dunkirk evacuation. Dan Snow tells their remarkable story as 50 of the ‘little ships’ return to France.
