Servants of the people
IT IS clear from the results of the local elections that there was a backlash from the electorate over the performance of Parliament.
MPs must represent the majority of the voters in their constituencies, regardless of their personal views. They are on notice that they stand to lose their seats at the next General Election, regardless of which of the two main parties they represent.
It is sad that many local councillors have lost their seats in this backlash because thousands of voters have moved their once-loyal support to the small, fringe parties.
They have sent a message in the hope of bringing self-serving MPs to their senses. They are the servants of the people and disregard that at their peril.
P. GANT, Newport, Shropshire. A CLEAr message has been sent to the Tories and Labour at the local elections. To the Lib Dems and others who have made gains, I would say enjoy it while it lasts. The European elections are just around the corner.
MICK WHEELER, Chelmsford. Essex. THE message from the local elections to our two main parties: a plague on both your houses.
VALERIE CREWS, Beckenham, Kent.
