I WISH the Government luck in getting everyone to turn down their thermostat­s.

When I visited people’s homes as part of my work, I lost count of the number of times I was greeted at the door by a person in a T-shirt and shorts while the central heating was blasting away.

My neighbour’s heating came on every day at 4.30pm, though she did not get home from work until after 6.30pm — she said she liked to return to a cosy house.

My generation, who grew up without central heating, are far more likely to reach for a sweater or a blanket. Miss DOREEN CLARKE,
