Iran regime accused of nuclear blackmail by US
THe United States accused Iran of ‘ nuclear blackmail’ after it announced it was easing curbs on its atomic programme.
Washington vowed to impose new sanctions after the Iranian government said it would no longer comply with parts of a controversial deal – that the US has already quit.
Under the deal signed four years ago by Iran, Russia, China, Britain, France, Germany and the US, Iran agreed to limit its nuclear programme in return for the lifting of sanctions.
However, Donald Trump unilaterally quit a year ago, claiming Iran was not sticking to its terms.
Tehran’s latest moves stopped short of violating its accord with the countries still taking part in the deal, but threatening more action if they did not shield it from sanctions.
Trump aide Tim Morrison called it the ‘nuclear blackmail of europe’. He added: ‘expect more sanctions soon.’
He said the US would resist any attempt by european countries to undermine its pressure on Iran.
