ALL-OUT ATTACK, AND IT LEFT ME SPEECHLESS

- CHRIS SUTTON

WE witnessed a miracle from Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday and we saw another from Tottenham at the Johan Cruyff Arena last night. Mauricio Pochettino threw on the only forwards he had available from his bench. Fernando Llorente was brought on for midfielder Victor Wanyama when they were trailing 3-0 on aggregate at half-time. Then when they still needed to score, Erik Lamela came on for defender Kieran Trippier. It was Pochettino going all-in and, my word, how it paid off. Who knows what formation Tottenham were playing in the final few minutes. It was like a schoolboy game. Balls were being lumped forward, in and around Llorente, and it came up trumps for Tottenham. Lucas Moura became Pochettino’s hat-trick hero but the touch from Dele Alli to set him up for Tottenham’s winner was first class as well. I was lucky enough to be inside the stadium to witness this and it left me speechless. At half-time, Tottenham seemed dead and buried. But Pochettino didn’t think so. His players didn’t think so. They dug deep. They kept going and going and going. What belief, character and sheer guts they showed to emerge victorious.
