BLUE HEAVEN
After cold and rain, stunning bluebell landscape paves the way for summer
With bracing temperatures and heavy rain lashing many parts of Britain this week, you could be forgiven for thinking we are still in the grip of winter.
But this stunning bluebell-filled landscape confirms that spring has very much sprung – and summer is on the way.
the photo was taken by Amelia Wright, 47, who captured the beautiful spectacle while walking with her husband, David, 48, in Devon. Mrs Wright, a purchasing manager from Essex, said the flowers made the area look like a ‘fantasy world’.
She added: ‘it was a complete carpet of bright bluebells. i have never seen anything like it before. it looked simply magnificent.’ She came across the scene overlooking the River Dart at Gallants Bower, near Dartmouth, Devon.
Mrs Wright said: ‘We were the only ones up there and had panoramic views. Bluebells are gorgeous. the meadow was just full of colour. it was breathtaking – it really was.’ Bluebells, which are protected in law, flower in a range of colours including white, grey, lilac and blue from mid-April to the end of May.
Earlier this week a study found the British bluebell is more fertile than its Spanish counterpart and has better quality pollen.
Meanwhile, forecasters say brighter and warmer weather is on the way for tomorrow and Sunday – continuing into next week.
