The world’s first test-tube rhino
TAKING its first steps, the first test-tube baby rhino reveals itself to the world.
The birth of the greater one-horned Indian rhinoceros in a US zoo could mean scientists are one step closer to saving the endangered species.
Experts artificially inseminated the newborn’s mother Akuti 15 months ago and staff at Zoo Miami said the baby is healthy and well – although they haven’t been able to examine it properly yet because of the protective mother.
Fewer than 3,000 Indian rhinos exist in the wild after years of poaching for their horns, which are used in medicine.
