Bielsa: We won’t kick ball out for injuries

- By HARRY SLAVIN and LAURIE WHITWELL

Marcelo Bielsa says leeds will not put the ball out of play if any Derby player goes down injured during the championship play-off semi-final. leeds suffered a backlash after they refused to put the ball out during their game against aston Villa last month, which resulted in Bielsa’s side taking the lead. He was then praised for ordering his players to let Villa equalise uncontested. Now the argentine has revealed he has spoken to his squad ahead of tomorrow’s first leg at Pride Park and the group have come to a decision. He will inform referee craig Pawson, as well as Derby boss Frank lampard and captain richard Keogh, of their intentions. ‘The rules say the person who has to take the decision is the ref,’ Bielsa said. ‘This has nothing to do with the situation against aston Villa because we feinted to put the ball out and didn’t. i’m not talking about that. ‘We just want to find a solution to this moment of doubt. We play by the rules but we don’t want to make people disappointed.’ Meanwhile, lampard has confirmed Derby county took measures to stop snooping at the club’s Moor Farm training ground after the spygate scandal. Derby’s last encounter with leeds was shrouded in controversy when one of Bielsa’s staff was caught watching one of lampard’s sessions.

Sportsmail revealed that in the aftermath Derby placed green tarpaulin around the perimeter to prevent easy viewing from the surrounding roads and lampard has confirmed steps were taken. ‘We did try to take some measures for that,’ he said. ‘i never said i want to check the perimeter and build a big wall. We had to make lots of cut-backs this year. ‘Hiring more staff to walk around is not possible. We haven’t trained indoors. i don’t expect anyone to be watching our training.’
