FORMER Huddersfield manager David Wagner, 47, has been appointed manager of German club Schalke. He played 36 times for the Gelsenkirchen side in the mid-1990s. SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY are in talks over a deal for Arminia Bielefeld captain Julian Borner. The 29-year-old centre back had agreed to extend his contract at the German club but Wednesday made a better offer.

PADRAIG AMOND’S late goal earned Newport County a 1-1 home draw against Mansfield in the League Two playoff semi-final first leg. CJ Hamilton scored for Mansfield and the second leg is on Sunday.
