Hospitals in baby death probe get fourth warning

-

A HOSPITAL trust being investigated over baby deaths has been given a formal warning over failures in its A&E units.

The Care Quality Commission said it had serious concerns about Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals’ casualty wards.

It marks the fourth time the NHS Trust has received a formal warning in the past eight months. It was placed in special measures last November.

More than 220 families have raised concerns about maternity services and an NHS review is investigating dozens of deaths and incidents over 20 years.

The CQC said it had taken ‘urgent action’ against the trust after an inspection in April revealed some children were leaving A&Es before being treated.

Dr Edwin Borman, the trust’s medical director, said: ‘We were not able to see all of our patients in 15 minutes and some patients left before treatment. We have alerted our GP colleagues.’
