Sarri anger at Chelsea charity trip to Boston

- By ADAM CRAFTON

CHELSEA manager Maurizio Sarri has risked the wrath of owner Roman Abramovich by complaining that the club’s charity friendly in America could jeopardise their chances of winning the Europa League. Chelsea set up a final clash with Arsenal by defeating Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday and the London clubs meet in Baku, Azerbaijan, on May 29. However, Sarri fears his preparations will be hit by the fixture against the New England Revolution on Wednesday. Abramovich is Jewish and both he and the Kraft family, who own New England, will donate $1million to charities including the World Jewish Congress, the Holocaust Educational Trust, the Anti-Defamation League and the Tree of Life synagogue. Chelsea are committed to taking a full squad and Sarri said: ‘Unfortunately we have to go to the United States. We go there for a good reason, so as a man I am very happy to go. As a coach, of course, I am a little bit worried because I know very well that the team now need rest. It is not the best way to prepare the final. ‘I am not worried about the physical side, it is more difficult to recover mentally.’ Sarri conceded there is little he can do to keep Real Madrid target Eden Hazard at the club. ‘If Hazard is thinking his story here is finished, then it is finished,’ Sarri said. But David Luiz is staying. The defender confirmed yesterday he had extended his deal until 2021.
