Say goodbye to piles quickly and easily
MOST people find it embarrassing to talk about haemorrhoids. Yet they affect more than 8million people in the UK, causing bleeding, itching and discomfort. But there’s now a discreet electrotherapy service that can treat them gently, without banding or a painful operation. During treatment, which takes 30 minutes or less, a gentle current is applied to the base of the haemorrhoid, causing it to shrink. There is no need for any needles or sharp instruments, or for sedation or anaesthetic — and most people find that they can return to normal activities immediately. Electrotherapy, which was developed in the U.S. and has been positively evaluated by NICE in the UK, has a track record of 155,000 treatments worldwide and more than 2,900 in Britain. All consultations include an examination by a consultant UK doctor registered with the General Medical Council. Half of all patients are cleared of their haemorrhoids after one treatment session, and 80 per cent after two. Larger piles may require more than one treatment. Up to three piles can be treated in a session and patients often report relief immediately after the procedure. Consultant colorectal surgeon Mr Paul Mackay says: ‘The feedback has been absolutely amazing. We are not far from it becoming the first-line treatment for haemorrhoids.’
