Terror of plane crash survivor... who hates f lying

- By Izzy Ferris and Alec Fullerton

A FOOTBALL fan who was pulled from the wreckage of a burning plane after it crashed on a busy road was terrified of flying, it emerged last night.

Jack Moore, 25, escaped serious injury along with his sister, Billie Manley, 16, and their uncle Stuart Moore – who was piloting the light aircraft – on Sunday morning.

The trio had been flying to Manchester to watch a game when their light aircraft crashed shortly after take-off in South Wales.

As he recovered from the ordeal yesterday, Mr Moore’s girlfriend Amelia Guilford revealed how he suffered from a fear of air travel.

She said: ‘Jack is afraid of flying but he’s been up with his uncle dozens of times and always feels safe. He’s looked into flying to help him overcome his fears so he was looking forward to the trip.’

Miss Guilford, a paralegal who lives with her boyfriend in Cwmbran, South Wales, added: ‘It was a miracle they all got out alive and he needs some time to come to terms with that.

‘He’s not in a good place right now – he keeps having flashbacks of the crash.’ She said Mr Moore, a heating engineer, ‘wants people to know he’s alright’, but added: ‘He’s not ready to talk about it at the moment. It’s too fresh in his mind.’

Mr Moore, a Manchester United fan, had taken the 50-minute flight with his family to an airfield near Old Trafford to watch his team play Cardiff City. But less than five minutes after taking off from a landing strip near Abergavenny, in Monmouthshire, the four- seater Cirrus crash-landed on the A40 dual carriageway as horrified relatives looked on. In a message on Facebook, Mr Moore thanked drivers on the road who selflessly stopped to help and added: ‘We are very lucky, lucky people.’ Airfield owner Frank Cavaciuti said: ‘The plane arrived without a problem and took off with the pilots’ niece and nephew. He said he ‘ heard the engine wasn’t right’ after take- off, and described how he saw it hit power cables as the pilot tried to make an emergency landing.

He added: ‘I ran down there but by that time drivers had stopped to pull them out. They are very, very lucky to survive.’

The wreckage is now being examined by experts from the Air Accidents Investigation Branch.
