Jab that stops awkward leaks
Botox-style jabs have been found to significantly improve incontinence in women.
twelve weeks after injections into their bladder muscle, 91 per cent of female patients who had not responded to other treatments had regained bladder control, according to research reported in the journal Neurourology And Urodynamics.
the study, at Vanderbilt University in the U.s., involving 21 patients, showed those given injections of botulinum toxin type A were able to hold 50 per cent more urine in their bladder before needing the loo than before.
Botulinum toxin works by blocking the transmission of electrical impulses from a nerve which makes the muscles of the bladder contract. Bigger studies are now planned.
