A NOSE
spray of tranquilliser diazepam could soon be an option for epileptics. Research presented at the American Academy of Neurology conference last week showed that 92 per cent of seizures were stopped with a single nasal dose, with no serious side-effects. Diazepam makes receptors in the brain release a chemical called GABA, which helps to prevent seizures by dampening excessive nerve activity in the brain. It is currently administered via the rectum. The spray is thought to be easier to use and well absorbed.
