RUSSELL T. DAVIES’S dazzling six-part saga takes a lot of current issues — fake news, t technology, extremism — and explores them through a Manchester family that is a picture o of social diversity. If t that makes this sound a bit right-on, i then it is, at first. But diversity is relative and, as the years pass here, it isn’t long before many in the Lyons clan feel at sea in a UK that’s changing around them. Rory Kinnear, Russell Tovey and Anne Reid play some of the family (pictured), while appearances from Emma Thompson as a rising and divisive political voice punctuate the plot. This is a drama that’s brimming with ideas, but it won’t be to everyone’s taste.
