WHO WERE THE REAL BIGOTS IN BAKER’S CASE?
THERE are not enough geniuses in broadcasting that we can afford to lose one. What was interesting about Danny Baker’s dismissal, however, is those who leapt to his defence. Everyone who knew him, and had a public platform. Unable to give the benefit of the doubt: those who have never met him, or had no interest in his work, his interests or his personality. On social media, many of those sitting in judgment made the connection between Baker’s south London roots, his love of football and his support for Millwall. It stood to reason that he would harbour horrid prejudices because he was a white, working-class Millwall fan. There’s a word for that, you know.
