FAIR CALL TO PULL TRIGGER NOW

- CHRIS SUTTON

THE decision to sack Chris Hughton was one Brighton owner Tony Bloom thought about carefully, and it’s one I can understand. Bloom felt the team had gone stale and needed a new voice. But I have some sympathy with Hughton. He had limited say on transfers, so the fact summer signings such as £17million Alireza Jahanbakhsh flopped was not entirely his fault. To the owner’s credit, he waited until the end of the season to pull the trigger. He let Hughton have the rest of the campaign rather than rushing into a decision when they were struggling. Time will tell if firing Hughton now was the right call.
