Rubber sparks baby food recall
THOUSANDS of jars of baby food have been recalled from supermarkets due to fears that they contain pieces of rubber.
The Food Standards Agency said the jars of Cow & Gate Cheesy Broccoli Bake ( 10+ months), pictured, may contain small pieces of blue rubber glove which ‘make the product unsafe to eat’. But Danone, which owns Cow & Gate, said the product ‘does not pose a health risk’ because the rubber pieces are so small and flexible they will ‘ pass through’ the digestive system.
The jars were sold at almost every major supermarket, including Asda, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Tesco.
The FSA said: ‘If you have bought the above product do not feed it to your baby. Instead, return it to the store where it was bought, with or without a receipt, for a full refund.’ The 77,000 recalled jars carry a batch code of 28122020 and a best before date of December 28, 2020.
