Sprained Bond! Ankle injury puts 007 out of action

- By Kelly Allen

AS injuries go, the world’s most famous secret agent has suffered far graver fates.

But the latest James Bond film has been thrown into chaos again after its star Daniel Craig hurt his ankle.

The actor, 51, who has played 007 for 14 years, was filming in Jamaica when he is understood to have injured himself while running.

Craig, who does most of his own stunts, was reportedly furious about the accident. It is not known how serious the injury was, but he was flown to the US for X-rays and is being examined by a top surgeon who treated England football star Harry Kane earlier this year.

It means production has been held up once again, having already been delayed after its original director Danny Boyle left the untitled project, known as Bond 25, last year. Filming due this weekend in Pinewood Studios near London has been cancelled too.

A source said Craig was ‘suited and booted’ for one of his last scenes in Jamaica when he took the tumble.

The insider added: ‘He was in quite a lot of pain and was complaining about his ankle. As you’d expect he was also pretty angry that it had happened. He threw his suit jacket on the ground in sheer frustration.’ The Daily Mail told last week how the script is being constantly rewritten on set with a committee of writers, including Craig and Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Boyle was replaced by Cary Joji Fukunaga, who brought in writer Scott Z Burns to rework the script. Craig then recruited Bafta-winning Miss Waller-Bridge to help with further redrafting.
