Alesha’s killer granted appeal

THE teenager convicted of raping and murdering six- year- old Alesha MacPhail has been granted leave to appeal against his life sentence.

Aaron Campbell, 17, was ordered to spend a minimum of 27 years behind bars for abducting and killing the schoolgirl on the Isle of Bute last summer.

A jury found him guilty unanimously fol-lowing a nine-day trial, and he later admit-ted the crime to those assessing him.

Campbell, who was described by the trial judge as ‘calculating and remorse-less’ and warned he may never be released, has been granted leave to appeal the life sentence on August 7.
