Devon fish merchant holds aloft his latest beast... an octopus with gigantic tentacles
FOR any fisherman, catching a huge octopus with tentacles that span 10ft would be an impressive achievement.
But for Josh Perkes, this is just the latest bizarre giant of the deep that he has snared.
The fish merchant from Brixham, Devon has previously caught and sold on an 80-year-old turbot weighing in at 33lb, and a massive monkfish. Other prize catches also include a 16lb cod.
The 33-year-old is the fifth generation of his family who has worked in Brixham port’s fishing industry. A chef spotted Mr Perkes’s social media post about the octopus and it was taken to London as soon as it was landed.
Mr Perkes said: ‘This is a North Atlantic octopus. I am 6ft 2in tall and the tentacles on this were more than 5ft long – which means its tentacles would have had a span of 8ft to 10ft.’
