KNACKERED MOTHERS’ WINE CLUB
BEST BUYS La Huasa Merlot, £6 (normally £7), M&S
THIS is the kind of red you want at your party. Firstly, it’s delicious, a bright, juicy red from Chile stuffed full of bramble fruit flavours. Also: it’s a bargain and comes in a party friendly screwcap. A party no-brainer.
WHITE WINE Reuilly 2017 Henri Beurdin, £8.39 (mix six price), Majestic
A BIT like Sancerre but cheaper, this super savvy Sauvignon Blanc comes from a nearby region in the Loire Valley. The richer soils produce wines with more weight than Sancerre but with the same citrus flavour. FOOD PAIRING: Tuna nicoise salad.
RED WINE Tesco Finest Gigondas 2016, £14, Tesco
GIGONDAS is a stone’s throw in France from Chateauneuf-du-Pape in the Southern Rhone. Made from a similar blend of grapes including Syrah and Grenache, it’s rich and spicy with a generous dollop of alcohol. FOOD PAIRING: Roast beef.
ROSÉ Porcupine Ridge Rosé 2018, £8.79, Waitrose
ADD colour to the table with this jolly (good) South African rosé made by Boekenhoutskloof. It’s like a pumped up Provence, with strawberry and redcurrant flavours. Utterly refreshing. FOOD PAIRING: Grilled salmon.
