Course crazy
ThE world of work, particularly in the public sector, is punctuated by seemingly endless obligatory course attendances, some of which are bizarre. I had to go on a course about how to walk down a corridor!
Police officers tell me that, apart from the fact they spend 20 per cent of their time on courses, the content seems to be concerned primarily with political correctness.
One officer of 20 years’ standing told me she was resigning because she had been sent on so many courses telling her who she should not apply the law to, because they were apparently deprived, trans, a member of an ethnic minority, disabled or mentally ill.
My daughter works in the nhS and the latest course she has to attend — changing travel distances for ambulances from miles to kilometres — is ridiculous and could be dangerous because of possible confusion. R. D. WOLSTENHOLME,
