Spanish beer stockpile
PUB firm Marston’s has stockpiled £6m of estrella beer to avoid running out if Brexit disrupts trade.
It imports the lager from Spain and is concerned that delays at the border could mean it is unable to replenish supplies fast enough to quench drinkers’ thirst.
Britain is the biggest market for the drink outside its home city of Barcelona, and Marston’s boss ralph findlay said it is increasingly popular. the chain, which owns 1,545 pubs, sells 250,000 barrels- worth of estrella every year. It has now built up enough supplies to last three months.
Its revenues rose to £553.1m in the six months to March 30, up 5pc on a year earlier. It made a £19.1m profit, up from a £13.4m loss.
