Swift walkers stick around for longer...
FASTER walkers tend to live longer regardless of their weight, a study has found.
Those who were slow and underweight had the lowest life expectancy – 64.8 years for men and 72.4 for women.
Professor Tom Yates, of Leicester University, said that his findings suggested ‘perhaps physical fitness is a better indicator of life expectancy than body mass index’.
The study, based on data from 474,919 Britons and published in the journal Mayo Clinic Proceedings, was carried out by the National Institute for Health Research Leicester Biomedical Research Centre.
