True sportsmanship

-

HOW sad to read of the conduct of the Manchester City team on the flight home after their close win of the Premier League.

My grandson plays for his junior school football team and, win or lose, they shake the hands of the opposing team and say: ‘Well done!’

If a title-winning team conducts itself in such a poor way, how can we teach children about sportsmanship?

G. KNIGHT, Royal Wootton Bassett, Wilts. I HAVE been a Liverpool supporter since the days of the great Bill Shankly. The full 11 in the early Sixties were all born in Liverpool. The earliest ‘foreigner’ I remember was Emlyn Hughes!

MIKE JONES, South Witham, Lincs. MY SON was fortunate to obtain two tickets for the Chelsea v. Arsenal Europa League final, but it is proving impossible to get to the stadium in Baku, Azerbaijan, without huge expense or a journey that would make Marco Polo proud.

I have even called Chelsea Football Club to see if it would be possible to travel with the team. No luck.

Why was this venue considered a good idea when both sets of supporters are treated so shabbily? MICHAEL DOUGLAS,

Guildford, Surrey.
