The couple tried to keep the public in the dark about where he was delivered – and others speculated that it was indeed a home birth. But the day after Archie was born the Mail disclosed the secret dash to the Portland Hospital.

Meghan, who was a week overdue, had been whisked there amid such secrecy that even senior royals weren’t told.
